A beautiful genuine antique box, hallmarked sterling silver mounted on real tortoiseshell with fine silver piqué inlay work to the hinged lid — a delicate swagged floral urn design in the neoclassical taste popular in the early 1900s. Raised on four silver claw-and-ball feet, with a gadrooned/beaded silver rim border and a secure hinged closure. Hallmarks (fully legible, see close-up photos): • Sponsor's mark: G&S Co Ltd — The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd • Lion passant — sterling silver standard (925) • Leopard's head — London Assay Office • Date letter "r" — 1912 Also stamped with the retailer's full mark: "The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, W" — a celebrated London silversmiths and jewellers founded in 1880, later amalgamated with Garrard & Co in 1952. Approx. size: 7.4cm diameter (see photo with calipers). Condition: Genuine antique piece, dated 1912 by its London hallmark — 113 years old. Good overall condition for its age. Please note: there is a small chip/loss to the tortoiseshell edge on the underside, and a slight bend/dent to the lower body (clearly visible in photos). The hinge and clasp function correctly and the lid opens and closes properly. Please study all photos closely as they form part of the description. A wonderful, well-documented piece for any collector of English antique silver — fully hallmarked, dated, and traceable to a well-known Regent Street retailer. Any questions, please message before bidding/buying — happy to help!
