A beautiful late 19th-century convertible jewel, set throughout with sparkling old European and old mine cut diamonds in a silver-topped mount, typical of fine Victorian work. The design is a radiating floral star: a principal old cut diamond sits in a raised, fluted collet at the centre, framed by diamond-set leaves. Eight claw-set diamonds sit on fine spokes, and an outer ring of pointed, diamond-set petals finishes the edge. Above it is a detachable fleur-de-lis surmount with scroll terminals, also diamond set. Wear it three ways: – As a brooch, with the surmount removed – As a pendant, with the brooch pin unscrewed from the back – As a brooch/pendant with both fittings in place Details: – Diamonds: old European and old mine cut diamonds – Metal: silver front on a gold back, unmarked; some small parts may test lower. – Length with surmount: 50.9 mm – Width: 35.3 mm – Weight: 14.34 g – Era: late Victorian, c.1880–1900 Condition: Very good antique condition, with wear consistent with age. All stones present, pin and catch working. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
