Pair of Antique Dresden Porcelain Bottle Vases & Covers – Helena Wolfsohn Studio, Meissen Blanks, Mid-19th Century A fine pair of square-section bottle vases with pointed finial covers, entirely hand-painted in the manner of 1730s Meissen (Höroldt period). Each front has a gilt-framed quatrefoil cartouche with a finely painted harbour scene (Kauffahrtei): merchants, fishermen with barrels, rowing boats, sailing ships and fortified buildings by the water. The cartouches are surrounded by rich iron-red and gilt scrollwork, with Indianische Blumen flower sprays to the sides, pink ribbon swags and small figures at the corners. The bases bear the underglaze blue Meissen crossed swords mark, cancelled by the factory, together with impressed form number "65". This shows the pieces are Meissen white blanks, sold by the factory and decorated outside it. The decoration is attributed to the Dresden studio of Helena Wolfsohn (est. 1843), renowned for painting Meissen blanks in the early Meissen style. No Wolfsohn AR or crown D mark; attribution is based on style, quality and the cancelled Meissen blank. Circa 1850–1870. Height: approx. 24 cm (with covers) Condition: Commensurate with age. Light wear to the gilding, mainly on the cartouche frames. Covers: "no chips, cracks or restoration" Please see all photos, which form part of the description, including the base marks.
