Original antique “The Metropolitan” tubular whistle by J. Hudson & Co., Birmingham, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1910s–1920s. Clearly stamped to the body: THE METROPOLITAN J. HUDSON & CO 244 BARR STREET BIRMINGHAM The whistle also carries additional period stamped/engraved identification markings to the body. A particularly attractive example retaining its original period chain and large uniform/pocket attachment clip, which are often missing from surviving examples. Constructed in nickel-plated brass and displaying an attractive original aged finish with light surface wear, scratches and patination consistent with age and service use. A very collectable original British police/general service whistle, ideal for collectors of police memorabilia, militaria, railwayana and early J. Hudson / ACME whistles.
