18thC Delftware Charger 34cm Blue & White Chinoiserie Garden & Fence Dish

Antique 18th Century Delftware Blue and White Chinoiserie Deep Dish / Charger, circa 1750–1770 A genuine mid-18th century tin-glazed earthenware deep dish or charger, hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The central decoration depicts a stylised chinoiserie garden scene with flowering plants, peonies, rockwork and a geometric fence. The border is decorated with alternating floral motifs and diaper-pattern panels. The dish is unmarked to the reverse, as is common with many pieces of 18th century Delftware. The exact place of manufacture is uncertain, although the form and decoration are consistent with English or Dutch Delftware produced during the middle of the 18th century. Date: circa 1750–1770 Diameter: approximately 33-34 cm Material: tin-glazed earthenware / Delftware Decoration: hand-painted cobalt blue and white Condition: The dish is in antique condition with considerable age-related fritting, glaze loss and numerous small chips around the rim, including several larger edge chips. There are surface scratches, glaze wear, small glaze losses and firing imperfections. The reverse has typical kiln marks, pits and manufacturing irregularities. No obvious major crack or restoration has been identified from visual inspection, but please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. A decorative and characterful example of genuine 18th century blue and white Delftware, displaying attractive period wear and a strong chinoiserie design.
