Large Antique Choisy-le-Roi HB French Majolica Nautilus Shell Jardinière with Original Stand An exceptional and highly decorative antique French majolica jardinière by Choisy-le-Roi (Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie), dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900). This impressive model is formed as a large Nautilus shell resting on a naturalistic coral base with shells and seaweed, retaining its beautiful turquoise interior glaze and vibrant original majolica colours. The most important feature This example still retains its original matching underplate/stand. After extensive research I have been unable to find another complete example with its original stand. Nearly all surviving Nautilus jardinières have lost the matching stand or it has been broken over the years. The original stand makes this piece significantly rarer and far more desirable to collectors of French majolica. Condition Excellent antique condition. No chips, no cracks and no restoration. Only light age-related crazing and minor wear consistent with age. Marks Black printed Choisy-le-Roi HB factory mark.
