Rare 1908 Edwardian Sterling Silver Baby Rattle Robert Pringle MOP Handle

A rare antique Edwardian sterling silver baby’s rattle by the renowned silversmith Robert Pringle & Sons. This charming double-sided figural rattle is modelled as the head and shoulders of a young child, mounted above an ornate neoclassical Corinthian-style column. It is finished with a genuine mother-of-pearl handle. The clearly struck English hallmarks read: • R.P – Robert Pringle & Sons • Anchor – Birmingham Assay Office • Lion passant – Sterling silver • Lowercase date letter “i” – 1908 Approximate overall length: 10.5 cm. This example is the plain enclosed figural version, without external hanging bells or an upper teething ring. Similar child’s-head rattles were produced in several different configurations during the Edwardian period. The rattle remains in good, displayable antique condition, with surface scratches, small dents, tarnishing and general wear consistent with its age. The mother-of-pearl handle displays attractive natural iridescence, together with some wear and small chips/losses around its lower edge.
