A charming and collectable Royal Worcester porcelain pin dish, hand-painted with a view of Cropthorne – the picturesque Worcestershire village in the Vale of Evesham. The scene shows a half-timbered Tudor cottage beside a winding country lane, with a figure and his sheep, trees and a rustic wooden fence, all in soft warm evening tones. Finished with a rich gilt rim. The Artist – Charlie Creese: Signed lower right by Royal Worcester painter Charlie Creese (born 1911). He joined the Royal Worcester factory in 1925 and painted rural scenes and cathedrals, before leaving the painting department in 1938 to work as a groundlayer. His signed pieces therefore come from a short period of around eight years, which makes them scarce and sought after by collectors.
