Set of 6 Antique Sitzendorf Porcelain Frog Band Orchestra Musicians c.1900

A rare and highly collectible set of six antique Sitzendorf porcelain frog musicians, forming part of the famous and wonderfully eccentric Frog Band / Frog Orchestra series. German, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1900. Each figure depicts an anthropomorphic frog dressed in colourful period costume and playing a different musical instrument. The figures are beautifully hand painted with fine characterful detailing, gilt highlights and individually modelled instruments. The group comprises six different musicians and displays exceptionally well together as an orchestra. These Sitzendorf frog musicians are increasingly difficult to find, particularly as a matching group. Individual examples are much more commonly encountered than groups containing several different musicians. Maker: Sitzendorf, Germany Period: Late 19th / early 20th century, circa 1900 Material: Hand-painted porcelain Number of figures: 6 Subject: Frog musicians / Frog Band / Frog Orchestra Condition: Good antique condition overall considering their age. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. As delicate antique porcelain figures, there may be minor age-related wear and imperfections. A particularly charming and unusual group of antique German porcelain and an excellent opportunity to acquire six Sitzendorf Frog Orchestra musicians together. The six figures are being offered together as one collection and will be very carefully packed for shipping.
